Blog 2.4: Trump and Facebook

He has spent about $1.6 million.  He is directing towards Republicans. Instead of actually addressing the allegations against him, he is lashing out at "conspiracies" against him. He is trying to weed out potential supporters and keep up his public image. $284 million 30% 90% was aimed at people over the age of 35. Nearly 30% of that is aimed at people 65 and over. 55% was aimed at men and the remaining at women. He is not aiming at states that were important in determining his 2016 win in the electoral college, like Wisconsin and Michigan. He is trying to make sure Republicans don't support the impeachment by putting pressure on them to support him instead. He has almost three times as much as the most funded Democrat. She is targeting states with large populations to help with her list-building. Recruiting people to support her will help her defeat Trump.

blog 2.3: ERA FINALLY

Democrats took over the House and Senate in Virginia. It would have guaranteed equal rights regardless of sex. 35, Nevada in 2017 and Illinois in 2018 38 states ratifying it is needed for it be added to the Constitution. It had a 7 year deadline. A House Committee refused to take it up, and it was voted down in a Senate panel, 9 to 5. They could vote to change the deadline. Speier and Cardin introduced legislation to change the deadline or remove it completely, giving Congress the chance to vote for the deadline to be removed. This was proposed by James Madison and then delayed for 190 years. Then Gregory Watson found a way to get it to be ratified and started a grassroots campaign to get it to happen.

blog 2.2: Iowa caucus

The dinner was the beginning of the final push to the caucuses and a chance for candidates to reenergize their bases, convincing undecided voters to support them. About 29% of voters are still undecided. About 20% know what they are going to vote for. Biden is losing support, while Buttigieg is gaining support. Warren and Sanders are also gaining support. Buttigieg likes to emphasize a positive outlook. He clearly states how he disagrees with how some politicians paint everything as a fight. He says he will fight if he needs but likes to focus on centrism. Warren thinks with big ideas. She has been focusing on her universal healthcare plan to promote her idea of addressing the needs of all people, despite how unlikely this may sound. Instead of buying seats for his supporters, Sanders hosted a watch party for them and donated $20,000 in ticket fees to the Iowa Democratic Party. February 3, 2020
