blog 2.3: ERA FINALLY


  1. Democrats took over the House and Senate in Virginia.
  2. It would have guaranteed equal rights regardless of sex.
  3. 35, Nevada in 2017 and Illinois in 2018
  4. 38 states ratifying it is needed for it be added to the Constitution.
  5. It had a 7 year deadline.
  6. A House Committee refused to take it up, and it was voted down in a Senate panel, 9 to 5.
  7. They could vote to change the deadline. Speier and Cardin introduced legislation to change the deadline or remove it completely, giving Congress the chance to vote for the deadline to be removed.
  8. This was proposed by James Madison and then delayed for 190 years. Then Gregory Watson found a way to get it to be ratified and started a grassroots campaign to get it to happen.
